Experience and Credentials
Our business appraisal experience includes valuing over 250 entities. We have valued companies in the start-up phase, to mature entities with over $100 million in annual revenue. We focus on valuing closely-held, owner operated entities, as well as asset holding companies. Recently, we have valued C-Corps, S-Corps, Partnerships, LLCs, LP’s, and sole proprietorships in a wide variety of industries. Our experience working directly with business owners, as well as counsel and M&A advisors, on actual deals helps us grasp the true value of a privately-held business.
In addition to a CPA license, we obtained the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) designation as issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The process of achieving the ABV accreditation includes an experience requirement, passing a comprehensive exam, and taking annual valuation related continuing education courses. We also obtained the Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst designation (FMVA) issued by the Corporate Finance Institute. Our credentials require our reports to adhere with the Statement on Standards for Valuation Services #1 (SSVS#1), as promulgated by the AICPA.
Valuation process - WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO WORK WITH US
Our valuation process starts with an engagement letter which outlines the terms and conditions of our arrangement. We also issue a detailed document request list. Generally, we review historical tax returns/financial statements as well as any budgets/forecasts and other important legal/company documents. After receipt of relevant and available documents, for many engagements we schedule an interview with the subject company’s owner to gain a detailed understanding of the business. The initial interview takes around 45 minutes to an hour. We can generally complete a detailed valuation report within 3 to 4 weeks after receipt of documents. After submitting our report, we are available to answer any questions.
